Subject: Meeting of Women MKs for Peace

Dear Women Peace Activists:

MK [Member of the Knesset, the Israeli Parliament] Naomi Chazan has responded to a call from the grassroots to initiate a collaborative and broad-based national women’s peace campaign. To date, Shulamit Aloni and MKs Chazan, Yael Dayan, Colette Avital, Zehava Galon and Tamar Gozansky have committed to join the effort. They are inviting all women, individuals and organizational representatives who believe in the possibility of rallying around a common agenda for a just peace and are interested in developing a joint women’s action plan, culminating in a large event/demonstration, to join them.

Hannah Safran reports that at the heart of this meeting will be the following principles:

1. Women’s voices must be heard.
2. Women call for an immediate resumption of negotiations based on the creation of a viable Palestinian state.
3. Jerusalem must be shared—two capitals for two people.
4. Settlements must be dismantled.
5. We aspire to reduce the violence.
6. We demand an international peacekeeping force.
